WebQuest!!!!

Our top WebQuest was the Egyptian one, because it showed great usage of technology.

The WebQuest we thought was the worst was the Landfill one, simply because it was badly structured and seemed the least helpful. It seemed whoever created it was either in a hurry or didn't care.

               -Strengths :

Wikipedia

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia run by a nonprofit organization. Wikipedia has also been translated into many different languages, including English. Although Wikipedia can be a bit warped by online users, the Wikipedia staff believe it can be "weeded out sooner rather than later". When it comes to eliminating the errors made to Wikipedia, a tool known as the Wikiscanner is used. The Wikiscanner is a tool that allows the IP address of any anonymous "editor" to be checked. Also, by using the Wikiscanner, you can see what changes have been made and research a bit more one different websites to validate the facts.

Since Wikipedia is mainly controlled and operated by volunteers, Larry Sanger (a former founder of Wikipedia.), left because he believed it should "give more authority to experts".

The statistics shown in the article show how popular Wikipedia is for such an "unreliable source". I believe Wikipedia is so successful because people have constantly relied on the information of others for centuries.

I'm not sure why Wikipedia wouldn't want to advertise their website. maybe because 90% of the world's population has already used/heard of it already.

Copyright :(

Can students upload their multimedia proiject to youtube? I think it depends on whether or not they cited everything and gave the original creator credit for his/her works. Otherwise, the original creator might feel that he/she has lost control of their own work. yes, there is a guideline for copyrighted material, in which a student cannot use more than 10 percent of whatever copyrighted material is present in the students' project.  Students don't need "permission" to use copyrighted material, if it is used for educational purposes and doesn't diminish any value from the original creator and his/her work.

The Learner That I Am

I happen to be a Multimodal learner . This means i have more than one strong preference . As a teacher , i could use pictures , posters , videos , and slides to teach students more about art . Being a hands on learner as well, I believe using demonstrations and letting students "play" with the material at hand can teach them to learn from the mistakes they might make.

Wordles and Polls . . . .

Wordles and polls both promote inventiveness in students . We used worldes and polls to form a better understanding of one another . In a classroom , I would be more likely to use polls to help my students study for art history tests or the terms used in certain drawings and paintings . This will promote a better learning environment because it will involve the use of technology and its certainly more fun than trying to retain the information from a dry textbook .

Worldes and polls also support and model creative thinking by engaging students and fullfilling that "want" to learn . Polls motivate the audience to think , therefore helping them retain the information better . Wordles spark creativity in students, giving them the idea that there is more than one way to remember certain terms.

Digital Language

"By understanding that new language technologies have shifted our students' attitudes about who holds the power in linguistic exchange, we will be better prepared to understand their perspectives and to reach common ground." (Naomi S. Baron)

This statement is very true, considering my personal opinions . Which teacher is a student going to learn from better : one who understands the students' perspectives, or one who crams information down their throats uncaring about their outlook on the material given? We are constantly evolving and we need to roll with the punches in order to acheive greatness.

My Poll

Digital Education

"We can’t keep preparing students for a world that doesn’t exist. We can’t keep ignoring the formidable cognitive skills they’re developing on their own. And above all, we must stop disparaging digital prowess just because some of us over 40 don’t happen to possess it. An institutional grudge match with the young can sabotage an entire culture. " (Virginia Heffernan)

As our world advances, it has become necessary to prepare our students for a world run by technology. I really agree with this qoute because how are we as teachers going to teach students about this progressed future by ignoring technology today. Its has become absurd to think cell phones and ipads are disruptive in a classroom (which in some instances can be), when those forms of technology are going to be used in the futures to perform their jobs and daily tasks. We as teachers cannot ignore the fact that technology has become a necessary skill in the work environment.

About Me

Hey ! My name is Ashley Epps , and I am from Hundred WV . I grew up traveling around alot , so staying in one place is something new and strange for me . I was born in Pordenone , Italy on September 21st , 1993 . I have 1 sister and 3 brothers . My parents are divorced , and I am currently emancipated from my father .

Right now , I am studying to become a high school art teacher . Art happens to be something I love doing and I want to share that with students . I think students should learn by what inspires them . If you aren't doing something you love , how can you be successful ? In my opinion , you won't thrive as much doing something that makes you miserable , as much as you would if you were doing something that you enjoy .

From what I have learned in this particular class so far , its necessary to incorporate some form of technology in the classroom . For example , I could use that poll site to create a kind of studying method for upcoming tests . Also , there is a site: http://www.artsonia.com/  where students can take a photo of what they created and post it on the web for others to see and post comments .

Anyways , thats me in a nutshell .
